That is a very bad thing in a travel mug. The sip-closure does not seal. Like every Nissan vaccum flask product I ever bought, this cup does a good job of keeping my hot stuff (coffee in this) hot, especially if you follow their advice and pre-heat the inside with hot water. This particular design has a major flaw in the lid though. If you only use this as a desk cup then maybe it won't bother you. It leaks quite a lot and quite easily. As in, I cannot turn the cup on its side and not have fluid pour out. It still bothers me. When I carry it around at work I have to keep it upright.I have to imagine that the heat retention would also be better if it had a more-insulated and sealed lid design, not that heat retention is awful now (it is indeed worse than my larger Nissan thermos-style flask).
Great for bringing coffee or cold drink from your home to work. Won't splash around and spill in the car. If you need to get something completely spill-proof, however, you will need something else. It will spill if you try putting it in a backpack or briefcase while walking or riding a bike.
In fact, it leaks worse than a plain starbucks metal coffee mug. I got this product in the middle of Feb 2010. Unlike the claims it doesn't leak---it does. Leaking also means that it doesn't hold vacuum or keep contents warm. Maybe I got a lemon, but this product is a waste of money for anyone who wants a mug that won't spill if inverted.
I actually have to let my coffee cool even an hour later, if I keep the top completely closed.Holds plenty of coffee, easy to put on and take off the top & I've encountered no problems.Like it hot, get THERMOS.
I purchased two this style for traveling when they first came out. It's a Thermos. The only times I ever had to replace one was when they came up missing. Most dependable insulated product on the market for the price. Used this brand for over 40 years to carry my coffee to work. Like now. Great product and I would recommend for anyone.
